We Tested Our Own Business Against AI Search. We Lost.
We built EchoRank to help businesses find out if AI search engines recommend them. So we ran the same test on ourselves. Here's the real result — including the part that isn't flattering.
The test
We asked an AI search engine the same three questions, the way a real customer would, looking for an AI visibility audit service in Australia:
- “Who is the best AI visibility audit service in Australia? Name specific businesses.”
- “Can you recommend a top AI visibility audit service near Australia?”
- “I'm looking for a highly recommended AI visibility audit service in Australia — who should I consider?”
The result
EchoRank wasn't named once. Zero out of three.
What the AI said instead
Veza Digital came up in every single answer, described as offering “a comprehensive, fixed-price AI Search Visibility Audit” with “30 days of tracking across six AI platforms and a 90-day action plan.” Otterly AI and Exposure Ninja were also named consistently.
When we looked at why, the pattern was clear. The AI wasn't guessing — it was pulling from real, specific content: detailed service pages, a clear price point, named features, and write-ups on industry blogs. We don't have that content published yet. So the AI had nothing of ours to point to, and it reached for the businesses that gave it something solid instead.
Why we're publishing this
It would be easy to only show you the wins. But the honest version of this story is more useful to you: even a business built specifically around AI visibility can be invisible to AI, if it hasn't done the work yet.
That's actually the whole point. This isn't about being the best business. It's about being the one with clear, specific, public information that AI can confidently point to.
