We asked an AI search engine the same three questions a real customer would type, looking for a plumber in Box Hill, Melbourne:

1. “Who is the best plumber in Box Hill, Melbourne? Name specific businesses.”
2. “Can you recommend a top plumber near Box Hill, Melbourne?”
3. “I'm looking for a highly recommended plumber in Box Hill, Melbourne — who should I consider?”

The business we tested: ProWater Plumbing, a local team founded by Grant and Jason, serving Box Hill and Melbourne's eastern suburbs.

The result

ProWater Plumbing was named in all three answers — a perfect score on paper. In two of the three, it was named first or among the top picks, with the AI calling it “the best Box Hill plumbers” and pointing to its 24/7 emergency service.

Why this matters

A perfect “named” score doesn't always mean a perfect “led the answer” score, and that distinction matters more than most advice on this topic admits. In a competitive trade like plumbing — where Box Hill alone has a dozen-plus active local providers — the AI is pulling from whichever business has the clearest, most specific claim sitting on the page it crawled at that moment. One strong, specific line (“top professional local plumbers”) was enough to take the opening spot in one of three answers.
